Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has reignited public outrage over the tragic case of the late Ochanya Ogbanje, the 13-year-old Benue schoolgirl whose story of abuse and death shook the nation seven years ago.

Reacting to news that the accused persons in the case had been discharged and acquitted, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed deep dismay and pledged her support to the family in their quest for justice.

In a heartfelt post, the senator wrote:

> “Seven years ago, the heart-wrenching story of little Ochanya devastated me. I thought the perpetrators were in jail. Alas, they were discharged and acquitted. The family of the late Ochanya Ogbanje should write a petition to me.”

Her statement has sparked renewed calls for accountability and justice, especially given the public outrage that followed Ochanya’s death in 2018. The young girl reportedly died from complications arising from years of sexual abuse allegedly committed by a guardian and his son.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, known for her advocacy on women and children’s rights, vowed to pursue every legal and legislative avenue to ensure that justice is not denied.

Human rights groups have welcomed her intervention, describing it as a ray of hope in a case that has long symbolized the struggle against sexual violence and the failure of the system to protect the vulnerable.

As the nation watches, many believe that Akpoti-Uduaghan’s involvement could breathe new life into a case that once united Nigerians in grief — and now, once again, in outrage.
