The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen motorcycle following a swift operation by officers attached to the Gwandu Division.
According to a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the arrest was made on October 22, 2025, at about 7:30 p.m., after one Umar Mode, 32, of Dalijan village in Gwandu Local Government Area, was attacked by armed hoodlums along the Gwandu–Birnin Kebbi road. The victim, who sustained a deep cut on his face, was dispossessed of his unregistered red Boxer motorcycle and a Tecno keypad phone.
Acting on credible intelligence, a combined team of police officers and local vigilantes, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Gwandu, immediately launched a manhunt that led to the arrest of one Basiru Lawali, 22, of Bancho village, Shagari Local Government Area of Sokoto State. The team also recovered one unregistered TVS motorcycle believed to have been stolen during the attack.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime and named his accomplices — identified as Hassan, Umaru, and Salihu — who are currently at large. He further disclosed that the gang usually meets at Dodoru market to plan their criminal activities. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Birnin Kebbi for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO Gwandu and his team for their swift response and professionalism. He urged officers across the command to maintain high vigilance and intensify patrols along the Gwandu–Birnin Kebbi route to curb rising incidents of robbery.
CP Sani also advised commercial motorcyclists to remain cautious about their passengers, routes, and operating hours to avoid falling victim to criminal elements targeting motorcycle owners in the state.
