The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested five suspects, including a woman, in connection with two separate armed robbery incidents across the state, while one suspect remains at large. Several stolen items, including livestock, were also recovered during the operations.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, in Dutse, the state capital.
According to the statement, the arrests were part of the Command’s intensified anti-crime campaign aimed at curbing robbery and related offences across Jigawa. The police noted that recent intelligence-driven operations have significantly reduced robbery incidents, particularly in rural communities such as Ringim and Hadejia.
First Operation: Three Suspects Nabbed in Malam Madori LGA
SP Adam explained that the first incident occurred on October 13, when three armed men attacked a 50-year-old victim, Usman Muhammad, of Garun Gabas Village, Malam Madori Local Government Area, as he returned from Hadejia town.
The attackers reportedly dispossessed him of his red Kasea motorcycle, Infinix Hot 50i smartphone, ATM card, and other valuables before fleeing the scene.
Police at Hadejia ‘B’ Division received the report around 10:30 p.m. and immediately launched an investigation. Acting on credible intelligence, operatives arrested two principal suspects — Adamu Yusuf (20) of Kwanar Bazawari Settlement in Kiri Kasamma LGA and Adamu Isah (25) of Kantin Waje Quarters in Hadejia LGA — on October 28 around 9:00 p.m.
Recovered exhibits include the victim’s mobile phone, ATM card, a Dane gun, cutlass, passport, Airtel SIM card, motorcycle key, and other personal items.
Further investigation led to the arrest of Aisha Yusuf (47) and Yusuf Adamu (55) both of Kwanar Bazawari Settlement, for allegedly aiding in concealing the stolen property.
“All suspects will be charged in court for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and aiding concealment,” SP Adam stated.
Second Operation: Livestock Theft Foiled in Gumel LGA
In a related development, detectives from the Gumel Division arrested **Habu Yahaya (30) of Tsamai Settlement, Gumel LGA, for his involvement in another robbery incident that occurred on October 30 at about 2:20 p.m.
The suspect and his accomplice, identified as Eje (now at large), allegedly attacked Umar Tasiu (17) of Galagamma Quarters, Gumel, as he walked along Garin Gambo Road with three goats and two rams. Armed with a cutlass and riding an unregistered motorcycle, the duo threatened the teenager and stole one ram valued at ₦70,000.
SP Adam disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, while the arrested individual remains in custody for further investigation.
Police Renew Commitment to Safer Communities
The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, commended the officers for their professionalism and swift response, reiterating the Command’s determination to stamp out criminality in the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid in crime prevention and quick response to emergencies.
“The Jigawa State Police Command remains fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of every resident through proactive intelligence gathering, community engagement, and robust enforcement measures,” the statement concluded.
