President Donald Trump on Monday introduced a new fast-track system that will allow holders of 2026 FIFA World Cup tickets to receive priority visa appointments — though his administration stressed that the perk does not guarantee entry into the United States.

The initiative is part of Washington’s push to assure football fans of a smooth experience during next year’s tournament, despite concerns that Trump’s tougher immigration policies could discourage visitors. Speaking in the Oval Office alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump urged prospective attendees to begin the visa process early.

Infantino, who has made several public appearances with Trump since the president returned to office in January, described the “FIFA Pass” as a key step toward easing fan travel. According to him, ticket holders will be able to access accelerated visa appointment scheduling, ensuring that “genuine football lovers” can attend the event under the best possible conditions. An estimated five to ten million international visitors are expected.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, however, cautioned that the program should not be mistaken for automatic approval. The priority system only guarantees a faster appointment — typically within six to eight weeks — while standard security vetting remains unchanged. Rubio urged fans to apply well ahead of time.

Trump has positioned the 2026 World Cup as a signature moment of his second term, coinciding with America’s 250th Independence anniversary. Yet the tournament is unfolding against the backdrop of political tensions, including Trump’s critiques of crime and immigration levels in some host cities, raising questions about whether certain venues could be reassessed.

The World Cup draw is scheduled for December 5 in Washington, where FIFA is also expected to unveil a new peace award — with speculation swirling that Trump could be among the contenders.
