Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the abduction of schoolgirls in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, as a “national tragedy,” assuring residents that the federal government is fully mobilised to secure the girls’ safe return.

Shettima, who visited Kebbi on Wednesday to commiserate with the community, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is deeply concerned about the incident and is receiving continuous updates on rescue operations.
“Kebbi’s pain is Nigeria’s pain,” the Vice President said, stressing that the government will deploy every necessary resource to bring the abducted students home unharmed.

He also paid tribute to the school’s late Vice Principal, who was killed while reportedly shielding students during the attack. Shettima pledged federal support for the deceased educator’s family, adding: “We will honour his courage. His sacrifice will not be in vain.”

The Vice President commended the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for their ongoing efforts to protect citizens, acknowledging the recent loss of a senior military officer in the fight against insurgency.
“The nation will remember his service and sacrifice,” he said.

Shettima also praised Kebbi State Governor Dr. Nasir Idris for his leadership and commitment to improving security, describing him as “a true son of the North.”

Accompanying the Vice President on the visit were the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs; the Minister of Women Affairs; and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor Idris expressed gratitude for the federal government’s solidarity and said he remains confident that ongoing efforts will help restore peace and security in the state.
