Residents of Maikujera and Gidan Boy communities in Sokoto State have repelled an attack by suspected bandits, killing two of the assailants and recovering stolen animals.

The bandits had reportedly rustled cattle from Kabunga village in Kware Local Government Area and were heading toward Bakura in neighbouring Zamfara State when the villagers mobilised and confronted them.

According to sources, youths from the two communities engaged the criminals in a fierce exchange of gunfire. They succeeded in recovering several cattle, rams, and camels. While two of the attackers were killed, others escaped with injuries.

The recovered animals were later handed over to the Chairman of Rabah Local Government Area for documentation and eventual return to their rightful owners in Kabunga. Attempts to reach the chairman for comments were not successful.
