The Police Service Commission (PSC), working jointly with the Nigeria Police Force, has announced the launch of a major recruitment exercise to enlist 50,000 police constables, following the approval of President Bola Tinubu. The initiative is part of the President’s broader strategy to reinforce community policing, strengthen internal security, and increase the police workforce.
This development comes after President Tinubu declared a national security emergency on November 26, 2025, directing both the police and the armed forces to expand their personnel in response to escalating insecurity nationwide. According to a statement issued on Thursday by the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, the recruitment portal will be open to qualified Nigerians from December 15, 2025, through January 25, 2026.
The PSC explained that applicants for the General Duty category must have a minimum of five credits in GCE O’Level, SSCE/NECO, or an equivalent qualification, including English and Mathematics, obtained in no more than two sittings. Those applying for the Specialists cadre are required to have at least four credits, including English and Mathematics, also in not more than two sittings, in addition to a minimum of three years’ experience and relevant trade test certifications.
Kalu added that only Nigerians by birth are eligible to apply. For General Duty roles, candidates must be between 18 and 25 years old, while Specialist applicants must fall between 18 and 28 years. Male applicants must have a minimum height of 1.67m, and female applicants must be at least 1.64m tall. He noted that all applications are to be completed and submitted online via the designated recruitment portal.
