On December 15, 2025, Sir James Iorpuu, Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), conducted a live press tour at BSEMA headquarters in Makurdi to present the agency’s achievements over the past two years.
The tour, led by the Honorable Ahoho Terungwa, Special Assistant to the Governor of Benue State for Media, was attended by online television platforms and influential media figures, including Ohitty TV/Radio, Alia TV Network, Alia Doo News Channel, Benue Spotlight TV, Alia Voice TV, and De Masses TV Network, among others.
The delegation was warmly welcomed by Sir James Iorpuu, who outlined BSEMA’s statutory mandate and highlighted the agency’s major humanitarian interventions during the period under review.
Sir Iorpuu, who also serves as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian and Disaster Management, revealed that, in addition to the regular monthly distribution of food and non-food items to internally displaced persons (IDPs), BSEMA, with the support of Governor Rev. Father Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has achieved remarkable accomplishments.
These include the inauguration of a mega water treatment plant in Naka, in the Gwer-West Local Government Area, with a capacity of 86 million liters per day; the construction of resettlement shelters in several displaced communities; the establishment of a mega farm for IDPs in Tyômu; and the implementation of micro-farming initiatives for displaced persons.
He noted that the projects align with Governor Alia’s agenda of providing sustainable and lasting solutions to the challenges of displacement. Other notable achievements highlighted during the tour included the water project in Ortese, in the Guma Local Government Area; the drilling of multiple wells in internally displaced persons (IDP) communities; the development of comprehensive state profiles of IDPs; the establishment of a support service at BSEMA headquarters; the completion of the state-of-the-art Fr. Alia Conference Hall, described as one of the finest in Nigeria; the construction of new office buildings for humanitarian partners; and a fully equipped power station with an emergency generator.
Sir Iorpuu commended Governor Alia for his unwavering support and commitment to ensuring that displacement issues in Benue State are addressed sustainably. He also acknowledged the critical role played by humanitarian organizations, donor partners, agencies, and individuals, with special recognition given to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs.
The Executive Secretary also led the press team on an inspection tour of the BSEMA warehouse, where relief supplies procured for strategic distribution during the holiday season were on display. The live media tour was hosted by Comrade Aer Simeon and included BSEMA Administrative Officer Dr. Donald Komgbenda; the Executive Secretary’s Personal Media Assistant, Comrade Terfa Anar; and other senior agency officials.
