The Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), H.E. Silas Agara, urged both Muslim and Christian communities to set aside religious divides and collaborate towards a brighter future for Nigeria.
Agara made this call during an interview following a Christmas church service at ECWA Good News Church in Akwanga on Thursday, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.
During the service, the church congregation were uplifted by various choral ministrations that filled the atmosphere with joy, reinforcing the message of the season.
Believers congregated not only to celebrate but also to reflect on their faith, embracing the spirit of Christmas and reconnecting with their creator amidst the challenges faced by the nation, including insecurity and economic difficulties.
Despite these trials, the congregation praised God, expressing gratitude for His mercy and favor.
As part of the service, Very Rev. Paul Samuel addressed the congregation on the topic “Emmanuel,” referencing Isaiah 9:7.
His message served to comfort the believers, emphasizing the joyous tidings brought by the birth of Jesus and reiterating the hope found in the Gospel of John 1:1-14.
The church service, themed “The Vision is Here at the Appointed Time,” encouraged believers to place their trust not in mere mortals but in God, who is described as the Mighty God and Everlasting Father.
Director General Agara highlighted that the unity of the nation is essential, advocating for tolerance and understanding between the two Abrahamic faiths, which he believes are necessary for the success of both Nigeria and Nasarawa State.
“Here in Nasarawa State, we appreciate God; we live as brothers and sisters. We have every reason to worship and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ as we move towards the new year with optimism,” Agara remarked.
In light of the upcoming 2027 general elections, Agara expressed concern over the misuse of youth as instruments of destruction, a challenge that resurfaces with each election cycle. He urged young people to channel their energy into productive endeavors that will secure a brighter future.
Looking ahead, Agara announced plans for the National Directorate of Employment to collaborate with River Basins across the country next year to better utilize Nigeria’s youth potential in a positive manner.
