President Bola Ahmed Tinubu joined millions of jubilant Nigerians in celebrating the Super Eagles’ decisive 2-0 victory over Algeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, describing the performance as simply brilliant and inspiring.
On Saturday, shortly after the final whistle, the president showered the team with praise on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:
“Brilliant performance… Inspiring. Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians.”
Nigeria produced a mature and dominant performance, crushing a stubborn Algerian team and securing a thrilling semifinal against tournament hosts Morocco.
The breakthrough came just two minutes into the second half when Victor Osimhen leaped highest and headed the ball into the net, sending the Nigerian fans into wild celebrations. Just before the hour mark, the reigning African Footballer of the Year turned playmaker, delivering a perfectly weighted pass to Akor Adams, who calmly doubled the lead and secured victory for Algeria.
Osimhen, who was named Man of the Match, quickly passed the praise to his teammates.
“Huge congratulations to the whole team for their performance against a very good Algerian team,” he said.
“I just did my job. I tried to fight for the team and get goals and assists, but the whole team deserves credit.”
The victory not only extends Nigeria’s impressive run at the Africa Cup of Nations, but also reignites the belief that the Super Eagles are ready to challenge for a fourth continental title. With the president’s support and the strong national backing, all eyes now turn to the crucial semi-final against Morocco.
