The Ezza Ezekuna People’s Progressive Congress (EEPPC) has showered glowing encomiums on the Executive Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, Engr. Sunny Oche, describing him as a distinguished leader, a beacon of hope, and a true servant of the people whose leadership choices continue to resonate positively at the grassroots.
This commendation was made by the President General of the Congress, Prince Nwakpa Chukwuma, during the First Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the body. Prince Nwakpa extolled the Chairman’s unwavering commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots development, noting his deliberate efforts at understanding and addressing the peculiar challenges confronting communities across the length and breadth of Ado Local Government. He further appreciated the Chairman’s instrumental role in restoring peace within their community, citing the peaceful atmosphere of the AGM as a testament to the prevailing calm. The EEPPC President General affirmed the group’s resolve to partner productively with the Chairman and the entire people of Ado Local Government in advancing peace, unity, and development. He described Engr. Sunny Oche’s leadership as visionary and transformational, crediting his administration with opening up the Local Government through improved road networks, infrastructural development, technological advancement, and enhanced human capital development.
Responding on behalf of the Chairman, the Chief Protocol Officer, Hon. Agbo Adaudu Onumah, conveyed the Council Boss’s satisfaction with the conduct and objectives of the EEPPC, which he described as a credible platform for the unification of the Ezza Ezekuna people within Ado Local Government and Benue State at large. The Chairman appreciated the kind words and goodwill extended to his administration, stressing that such gestures must translate into sustained harmony, mutual trust, and collective progress among the people.
The Chairman recalled a series of peace-building and reconciliation meetings he personally presided over, which culminated in the achievement of a ceasefire between the Ezza and Effium communities within his first 100 days in office. He also referenced the successful resolution of the long-standing Ndobasi intra-community dispute over market leadership and revenue sharing, which had persisted for over five decades. Additionally, he highlighted the restoration of peace between the Ngbo people of Ebonyi and their Agila counterparts, aimed at strengthening unity and cordial relations between Ado Local Government of Benue State and neighbouring Ebonyi communities.
In furtherance of his peace initiatives, the Chairman undertook a courtesy visit to Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District and Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Senate. During the Senator’s Annual Thanksgiving in Isheke, Mbeke, Ebonyi State, the Council Chairman held strategic engagements with top government officials to consolidate peace along the border communities of both states. These engagements yielded agreements on a proposed link road from Isheke to Ado Local Government through the Ijigban axis, a project envisioned to stimulate commerce, facilitate bilateral trade, reduce travel distances, boost revenue generation, and enhance the overall well-being of border communities.
In his address to the gathering, the Chairman urged the EEPPC to champion youth entrepreneurship and self-reliance, emphasizing collective growth through the sustenance of the Igbo apprenticeship business model, which he described as a proven pathway to economic empowerment. He encouraged youths to engage in productive ventures and shun actions capable of breeding disaffection within communities. He identified Agriculture, FinTech, skills acquisition, and human capacity development as priority sectors that now offer greater prospects than the traditional pursuit of white-collar jobs. Above all, he reaffirmed that peace remains the foremost choice and legacy, being the surest foundation for harmony, security, and sustainable development.
In the Chairman’s delegation were the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ado Division; the Chief of Staff to the Chairman, Hon. Justice Obande; the Local Government Security Secretary, Chief Sir Vincent Anma (KSM); the Council Recorder, Mr. Gowon Obande; the Senior Special Adviser to the Chairman on Humanitarian Affairs, Aunty Ejeh; and the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Domestic Affairs, Mrs. Rose Oche, among others.
The event ended on a note of conviviality and optimism, as participants expressed a strong sense of fulfillment and shared purpose. The maiden AGM of the EEPPC was widely acknowledged as a defining beginning, setting the group on a firm path toward the realization of its vision and collective aspirations.
