The Association of Local Government Information Officers (ALGIO) National Professional Capacity Building Workshop, held from December 2nd to 5th, 2025 in Utako, Abuja, has concluded with significant insights and renewed commitment to professional synergy across Local Government communication structures.

Organized by the ALGIO National Body under the Chairmanship of Comrade Jibril Bissalla, ANIPR, MTI, and facilitated by ITEC Consultancy Services led by Mallam Abdulwakeel Ademola Abdulwahab, the workshop delivered strategic learning sessions aimed at strengthening information management at the grassroots.

The training provided participants with an in-depth understanding of the distinct but complementary roles of Information Officers and Media Aides. It further offered practical solutions to bridging existing gaps between the two offices. Emphasis was placed on the collaborative “push-and-pull” structure required to effectively project Local Government activities, where Media Aides, working on the front lines, gather real-time information, while Information Officers coordinate and refine these reports to reflect the Council’s vision and achievements professionally. Participants unanimously agreed that improved synergy between both roles will enhance service delivery and promote effective governance.

Special appreciation is extended to the Chairman of Ado Local Government, Engr. Sunny Oche whose support made participation of his Principal Private Secretary in the workshop possible. His leadership remains noteworthy for fostering teamwork, unity, and capacity development among his staff. His commitment to building a competent and coordinated media and information management structure has significantly improved productivity within the Council. In recognition of his mentorship and goodwill, the certificate earned from the workshop by the participant from Ado LGA is proudly dedicated to him.

His collaboration with ALGON and the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has positively influenced capacity-building efforts in the State. Benue’s strong representation and impressive contributions at the workshop were a testament to his leadership and inclusive governance approach.

The workshop concluded with a shared commitment among participants to uphold professionalism, teamwork, and improved work ethics. A symbolic consensus described the Information Officer as the “groom” and the Media Aide as the “bride,” signifying a reinforced partnership that is expected to elevate communication standards and strengthen governance at the grassroots.
