Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has openly admitted that David Moyes is doing a better job at Everton than he has managed at Old Trafford, as the two prepare to go head-to-head this weekend.
Speaking ahead of United’s clash with Everton at Goodison Park, Amorim conceded that Moyes’ impact since returning to the Toffees in January has been far more effective than his own efforts to revive United.
“David Moyes is doing a better job than me. It’s quite simple,” Amorim said. “Winning one game, winning two games—that belief builds up. The pressure is also not the same.”
Since replacing Erik ten Hag in November, Amorim has only secured four wins in the Premier League while suffering eight defeats. In contrast, Moyes has already matched that win tally in just six games, steering Everton above United in the table.
Saturday’s game will be the last-ever Premier League meeting between these two clubs at Goodison Park before Everton moves to their new stadium. A defeat for United would pile more pressure on Amorim, whose tactics have reportedly raised concerns among some players.
However, the Portuguese manager remains defiant: “If they [the players] are not convinced, I don’t feel that. It’s my job to change their minds, and I’m quite good at that.”
Despite the difficulties, Amorim insists he has no regrets about taking the job mid-season rather than waiting until the summer.
“It’s Manchester United—you cannot say no.”
