The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action in fortifying the security of the Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, following reported threats to her life.

In a statement issued by Afenifere’s Organizing Secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, the group emphasized that Adeyeye’s alarming revelation about threats to her and her staff should not be ignored.

Adeyeye has played a crucial role in Nigeria’s fight against counterfeit drugs, unsafe food products, and criminal syndicates profiting from the suffering of citizens. Omololu stressed that any attempt on her life is a direct attack on public health, national security, and the rule of law.

“Nigeria cannot afford to abandon those who risk everything to protect public health and safety,” Omololu stated.

Afenifere further called for robust security measures for key government officials, including the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the head of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), urging the provision of armored vehicles, elite security personnel, and advanced surveillance systems.

The group warned that inaction would embolden criminals and weaken national institutions, stressing that the battle against counterfeit drugs and illicit trade is critical to Nigeria’s survival.

Afenifere urged President Tinubu to act swiftly in enhancing security around Prof. Adeyeye, her family, and her staff, recognizing her dedication and sacrifice in serving the nation.
