Armand “Mondo” Duplantis has done it again! The Swedish Olympic champion soared to new heights on Friday at the All Star Pole Vault event in Clermont-Ferrand, France, breaking his own world record with a jaw-dropping leap of 6.27 meters.
Having already secured victory at 6.07m, Duplantis wasted no time setting the bar higher—literally. On his very first attempt, he cleared 6.27m with ease, making history for the 11th time since he first claimed the record in 2020.
“I just felt really good. What can I say? I came here to do it,” Duplantis said after the jump, adding that the thrill of breaking records never gets old. “It’s a crazy feeling every time. It’s like euphoria.”
A Jump to the Beat of His Own Song
In a twist that made the moment even more special, Duplantis revealed that his newly released song, “Bop,” was playing in the arena as he made the historic leap.
“That was my song!” he said, still breathless from the excitement. “When I made it a couple of months ago, I thought, ‘This would be the perfect song to jump to here.’ So I rushed it out.”
While Duplantis was all smiles about his record-breaking night, he jokingly declined to sing his track for reporters: “My voice is messed up from all the yelling.”
A Dominant Force in Pole Vaulting
This is the second time Duplantis has broken the world record in Clermont-Ferrand, the first being 6.22m in February 2023. Just last August, he set the bar at 6.26m in Poland, weeks after winning Olympic gold in Paris.
On Friday, he battled Greece’s Emmanouil Karalis, who cleared 6.02m before withdrawing due to cramps. Duplantis then clinched the win at 6.07m, before raising the bar another 20cm—and making history.
What’s Next for Mondo?
With another record under his belt, Duplantis is set to compete again on March 13 in Uppsala, Sweden, before heading to the World Indoor Championships in China (March 21-23).
As for when he’ll break 6.30m? Duplantis smiled and teased: “Maybe 28, maybe 29.”
At this rate, the sky’s the limit!
