Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and two-time presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has boldly declared his intention to contest and win the 2027 general elections against President Bola Tinubu and other political heavyweights.
Speaking at the 2025 ECOWAS-Abuja International Marathon on Saturday, Sowore likened the upcoming electoral contest to a race he is fully prepared to win.
“The real race is coming up soon—the one where I will face Tinubu and others—and I will claim the ultimate prize,” he confidently told journalists after participating in the 5km run.
Beyond politics, Sowore emphasized the economic potential of sports, advocating for greater investment in athletics and other games like swimming, snooker, javelin, and shot put. He argued that sports could become as lucrative as oil for Nigeria’s economy.
“Every runner here has the spirit of participation, and that’s what matters. We need to make marathon races a norm in every town, city, and village,” he said. “Instead of chasing oil money, why not invest in sports? Nigerians can do anything—even Winter Olympics! That’s why we need better leadership in this country.”
With 2027 on the horizon, Sowore’s latest declaration sets the stage for a political showdown that could shake the nation’s power structure.
