As former President Olusegun Obasanjo marks his 88th birthday, tributes are pouring in from across Nigeria and beyond, celebrating his immense contributions to the nation and the world.
One of the notable voices honoring him is former presidential candidate and businessman, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, who described Obasanjo as a symbol of resilience, service, and visionary leadership.
“Baba, your life is a testament to unwavering dedication to Nigeria, Africa, and global peace,” Olawepo-Hashim stated in his heartfelt message. “From your days as a young officer in the Nigerian Army to your leadership during the civil war, your role as Head of State, and your transformational tenure as a democratically elected President, you have remained a towering figure in our national history.”
Reflecting on their time together during Nigeria’s transition to democracy in 1998–1999, Olawepo-Hashim praised Obasanjo’s courage in navigating the country through a complex political landscape, ensuring stability and unity.
“At a critical moment in our nation’s history, I witnessed your determination to lead Nigeria towards a democratic path. Your deep understanding of governance, your ability to confront national issues head-on, and your vision for a united Nigeria were truly remarkable,” he said.
