The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) community in Ile-Ife, Osun State, is in mourning following the sudden passing of Professor Jimoh Olanipekun. The senior academic tragically fell ill during a departmental meeting on Wednesday and later died en route to the hospital.

According to a statement from the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, Professor Olanipekun was observed breathing abnormally during the meeting. Concerned colleagues swiftly rushed him to the university’s Health and Medical Centre for immediate medical attention.

Despite the efforts of the attending doctors, he was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where he was sadly pronounced dead.

OAU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, led a condolence visit to the grieving widow and children, expressing shock and disbelief at the professor’s sudden passing. He described Olanipekun as a brilliant scholar whose impact would not be forgotten.

Encouraging the family to find solace in his legacy, Bamire offered prayers for strength and comfort, extending his condolences to the Department of Philosophy, the Faculty of Arts, and the entire university community.

The loss of Professor Olanipekun is deeply felt, leaving a void in the academic and intellectual circles of OAU.
