The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, has lauded the transformation of the National Theatre, highlighting it as a game-changer for Nigeria’s creative sector, with the potential to unlock a staggering $25 billion in revenue.

Speaking after touring the newly refurbished facility—revamped through a N22 billion project funded by the Bankers Committee—Cardoso praised the initiative, calling it a testament to vision and resilience.

“It’s been a long and challenging journey, but thanks to the unwavering belief and commitment of the Bankers Committee, this historic landmark has been restored,” he said. “Embedded within these walls is the rich history and culture of Nigeria, and preserving it is a service to the nation.”

On the broader economic impact, Cardoso emphasized that the creative industry holds the potential to generate $25 billion, with the upgraded National Theatre serving as a key catalyst in achieving this goal.
