Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has called on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to focus on one key project at a time in order to achieve tangible and lasting progress for the region.
Soludo made this call when he met with the newly appointed members of the SEDC, led by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Emeka Nworgu, at the Governor’s Lodge in Awka on Friday. He urged the commission to adopt a clear, focused agenda for the next five years to maximize its impact and ensure successful delivery of its initiatives.
During the meeting, Soludo stressed that a strategic, focused approach would lead to more meaningful results. “We should not waste this opportunity. Adopt a one-point agenda, such as the South East rail network to connect all the state capitals, deliver it, and then move on to the next project. If we try to achieve too many things at once, we risk spreading ourselves too thin and leaving projects unfinished,” he said.
Soludo emphasized that setting measurable goals and delivering on them would set the SEDC apart, encouraging them to create a report card in five years that demonstrates real progress and impact.
The Governor also urged the commission to collaborate closely with the governors of the South East to achieve collective progress and regional development.
Earlier, Dr. Nworgu, the CEO of SEDC, expressed his appreciation for Soludo’s leadership, commending his achievements in the health, education, and infrastructure sectors in Anambra.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of SEDC, Mr. Mark Okoye, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to establishing the South East region as a leading hub for investment, sustainable development, and economic growth. He also highlighted the importance of working in partnership with Anambra and other South East states to drive regional prosperity.
The discussions set the stage for further collaboration as the SEDC aims to unlock the full potential of the South East region.
