Governors elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have firmly denied rumors suggesting that five of their members are backing a possible 2027 presidential ticket featuring former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Labour Party’s Peter Obi.

In a strong-worded statement issued by the PDP Governors’ Forum Director-General, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, on behalf of its chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the forum dismissed the reports as baseless political mischief aimed at creating division within the opposition.

The statement accused certain political actors of attempting to destabilize the PDP through propaganda and misinformation, warning that such tactics would not succeed.

“The PDP Governors’ Forum categorically distances itself from these speculations. We will not be drawn into any backdoor political deals or manipulated narratives meant to weaken our party,” the statement read.

It reaffirmed the PDP’s commitment to party unity, democratic values, and a fair electoral process, emphasizing that the governors would fully support whoever emerges as the party’s presidential candidate in 2027.

The forum also took a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of trying to suppress the opposition while failing to address the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.

“We remain focused on delivering good governance to the people and ensuring that our party remains strong and united ahead of the 2027 elections,” the statement concluded.
