The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a pastor and two others in connection with the suspected murder of 28-year-old Ogubode Adedamola, a recent graduate of Lagos State University (LASU). Five more suspects remain at large.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Friday, March 7, 2025. Among those in custody are Pastor Whepetoji Sunday, Sherrif Adebayo, and Omolara Ajisomo. Meanwhile, authorities are intensifying efforts to track down the remaining suspects.
Initially, Adedamola was reported missing, and police dismissed speculation that he was a victim of ritualists. However, Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has now classified the case as suspected murder.
“Following a preliminary investigation, this is no longer a missing person case but a suspected homicide. Our priority now is locating the victim’s body and uncovering the circumstances of his death,” the CP stated.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the probe, and authorities are urging the public, especially the LASU student community, to remain calm as investigations continue.
Further findings revealed suspicious financial transactions linked to the victim’s disappearance. Investigators discovered that money was transferred from Adedamola’s bank account to five suspects before he went missing. Three of them have been arrested:
Pastor Whepetoji Sunday – Received ₦70,000 from Adedamola’s account.
Sherrif Adebayo (Church Member) – Received ₦300,000.
Omolara Ajisomo – Allegedly helped her children, Teniola and Olaoluwa Ajisomo, flee to Cotonou, Benin Republic, after each received ₦300,000 from the victim’s account.
The police are now working to apprehend Teniola, Olaoluwa, and three others still on the run.
Adedamola, a Political Science Education graduate, was an entrepreneur who ran a café on campus. He was declared missing on January 16, 2025, before authorities confirmed his death.
His tragic passing has sparked widespread outrage among students and the public, with growing calls for swift justice.
CP Olohundare Jimoh assured that no suspect will escape justice.
“The Command is committed to ensuring every person involved faces the full wrath of the law. Updates on this case will be made public in the interest of justice.”
This shocking development has once again raised concerns over security and crime in Nigeria, leaving many demanding stronger measures to protect young citizens.
