A cloud of sorrow hung over Uga, Aguata LGA, Anambra State, as the bodies of three innocent siblings—Chikaima Ejezie (9), Chimziterem Ejezie (8), and Chimdirim Ejezie (5)—were laid to rest amid heartbreaking wails from family and mourners.
The children were brutally murdered on February 1, 2025, in Nnewichi, Nnewi North LGA, by yet-to-be-identified attackers who invaded their home while their mother was away for an exam. In a horrifying act, their lifeless bodies were stuffed inside a freezer before the perpetrators fled, leaving the apartment open.
Their burial, held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Umueze Uga, drew a massive crowd, including over 30 priests, royal fathers, local government officials, and grieving sympathizers. The mass was led by Cardinal Ebere Okpalaeke, Archbishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, who condemned the killings, likening them to the biblical story of Cain and Abel.
“Those responsible for this wickedness will never know peace,” Cardinal Okpalaeke declared. “A curse is upon them. Innocent blood cries for justice, and justice will come.”
The pain was palpable as the siblings’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Udochukwu Ejezie, stood by their children’s graves, overwhelmed with grief. They described the tragedy as their worst nightmare and thanked the community for standing by them during this dark time.
They also called on authorities to intensify investigations and ensure that those behind this heinous crime are brought to justice.
As mourners bid farewell to the young victims, the tragic reality of rising insecurity in the country echoed louder than ever.
