The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that a record-breaking 2,030,627 candidates have registered for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), marking the highest number of applications in the board’s history.

This milestone was revealed in JAMB’s weekly bulletin issued in Abuja on Monday. The registration for the exam officially closed on March 8, with over 1.9 million candidates applying for the 2024 UTME.

It’s important to note that the 2.03 million figure excludes candidates who registered for the examination at foreign centers. Additionally, 200,115 candidates have opted to take the optional mock UTME, scheduled for April 5, 2025.

In an effort to preserve the integrity of the examination process, JAMB has introduced several innovative measures to combat cheating. These measures have already led to the arrest of several candidates attempting to use forged A-level results for admission, demonstrating the effectiveness of the new system designed to detect such fraud.

JAMB has urged all candidates to follow the examination rules closely and avoid any dishonest practices during the test. With such a high number of registrations, this year’s UTME promises to be one of the most closely watched in history.
