The tension in Rivers State has reached a boiling point as Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, has issued a direct ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Okocha has demanded that Fubara either resign from office or face the consequences of impeachment.
At a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, Okocha criticized the governor’s recent actions, particularly his controversial meeting with 27 state lawmakers. He described the invitation to the lawmakers as a “Greek gift,” suggesting it was a deceptive and politically motivated gesture.
Okocha didn’t mince words as he accused Fubara of openly disrespecting President Bola Tinubu and undermining the rule of law. “The Supreme Court judgment is final, and there’s no turning back from it,” Okocha said. “At this point, the governor’s only options are to step down voluntarily or face the inevitable: impeachment.”
With political tensions rising in Rivers State, it remains to be seen how Governor Fubara will respond to this bold challenge from the APC leader.
