A devastating accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed four lives and left nine others injured after a high-speed vehicle suffered a tyre blowout, leading to a fatal crash.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State confirmed the incident, which occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to Florence Okpe, the FRSC spokesperson, the crash involved a single vehicle, a Toyota bus with registration number FKJ 570 YE.

“The accident was caused by excessive speed and a tyre burst, which led to a complete loss of control,” Okpe stated.

Out of the 13 passengers on board—five men and eight women—four people (two men and two women) tragically lost their lives, while three men and six women sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Emergency responders quickly transported the injured victims to Victory Hospital in Ogere for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the FOS morgue in Ipara.

In response to the tragedy, Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, urged motorists to prioritize road safety by reducing speed and ensuring regular vehicle maintenance. He also emphasized the need for fleet operators to install speed limit devices to prevent similar incidents.

As authorities continue to advocate for safer driving practices, this accident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of speeding and poor vehicle maintenance on Nigerian highways.
