A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Hon. Charles Idahosa, has fired back at the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for criticizing Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration. Idahosa described PDP’s claims of rising insecurity as ironic, pointing out that key party figures were victims of kidnapping under former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s tenure.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City on Tuesday, Idahosa praised Okpebholo’s bold approach to tackling crime, particularly his decision to demolish buildings linked to kidnappers. He also commended the governor’s infrastructural drive, highlighting the ongoing road projects and plans for Edo’s first-ever flyover.
Idahosa took a swipe at PDP’s Caretaker Committee Chairman, Anthony Azeigbemi, and his deputy, Harrison Omagbon, accusing them of spreading misinformation. He reminded them that they both experienced kidnappings under Obaseki’s administration and should not falsely portray Edo as a crime-ridden state under Okpebholo.
On the legal battle over Okpebholo’s election victory, Idahosa dismissed PDP’s tribunal case as weak, predicting an APC win. He also criticized Obaseki’s governance, recalling how he resigned early in the administration after realizing the former governor’s alleged failures.
He emphasized that Okpebholo is focused on true development, contrasting it with Obaseki’s tenure, which he claimed was marred by political vendettas and misplaced priorities. According to Idahosa, the new administration’s policies, including demolishing kidnappers’ hideouts, will serve as a warning to criminals and help restore security in the state.
“Governor Okpebholo is leading with action, not noise. He is opening up Edo, just like Ambrose Alli did during the old Bendel State era,” he said.
