Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to squatters obstructing the construction of the Arterial Road N20 in Abuja, declaring that the government will not hesitate to demolish illegal structures hindering the project.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Gishiri community, where residents have resisted the roadwork, Wike expressed frustration despite the government providing compensation and relocation plans.
“I have personally visited here multiple times, engaged with community leaders, and ensured funds for compensation were made available. Yet, some individuals are still blocking the contractor from proceeding. Enough is enough,” Wike said.
He emphasized that the road construction is for public benefit, not personal interest, and warned that the government would not tolerate any sabotage.
“We’ve given them more than two to three months. We can’t let a few people hold an entire city hostage. Development must continue,” he added.
Wike assured that his administration remains committed to completing the road by May, urging residents to cooperate for the greater good.
