ABUJA – Nigeria has lost a distinguished diplomat and statesman, Hon. Chief Dubem Onyia, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who passed away on Monday at the age of 73 after a brief illness.
His family confirmed his passing in a heartfelt statement issued on Tuesday by Engr. Emeka Onyia, describing him as a devoted public servant, mentor, and leader whose impact on Nigeria’s diplomatic landscape remains unforgettable.
“Chief Onyia dedicated his life to God and public service, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s foreign relations. His tenure as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs was defined by his unwavering commitment to national interest,” the statement read.
Beyond his government service, Onyia was celebrated for his wisdom, generosity, and dedication to uplifting others. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and a vast network of political associates and friends.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
