Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has delivered a brutal assessment of his club’s squad, branding some players as “not good enough” and “probably overpaid.”
Speaking to the BBC in an explosive interview, Ratcliffe expressed his frustration with costly signings that have failed to live up to expectations. The British billionaire pointed fingers at stars like Jadon Sancho, Antony, Casemiro, Rasmus Hojlund, and Andre Onana, insisting that their hefty wages and underwhelming performances have become a major burden for the club.
“These are all things from the past that we’ve inherited and now have to sort out,” Ratcliffe said. He revealed that United are still paying for signings like Sancho, who is currently on loan at Chelsea while the club continues to cover half of his wages.
Ratcliffe, who took over football operations in February last year, admitted to making errors in key decisions, including keeping Erik ten Hag as manager and appointing Dan Ashworth as sporting director. Both choices, he acknowledged, were mistakes.
Despite United’s struggles under current boss Ruben Amorim, who replaced Ten Hag after a poor start to the season, Ratcliffe remains confident in his long-term vision. “Ruben is an outstanding young manager, and I think he’ll be here for a long time,” he said.
The interview comes amid growing tensions at Old Trafford, with fans protesting against the Glazers and Ratcliffe’s leadership. Recent unpopular decisions, such as a mid-season ticket price hike and job cuts, have only fueled frustration.
However, Ratcliffe insists his priority is bringing Manchester United “back to greatness” and believes the club can reclaim the Premier League title by 2028. Whether that vision becomes reality remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—change is coming to Old Trafford.
