Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, has raised concerns over the apparent unpreparedness of the State House of Assembly to receive the 2025 budget, despite prior notifications.

On Wednesday, Fubara, accompanied by members of his cabinet, arrived at the Assembly Quarters—where the 26 lawmakers now sit—only to find the gates locked, with no sign of activity.

Addressing the press, the governor expressed his disappointment, stating that he had followed due process by notifying the Speaker and attempting to reach him via phone calls. However, he received no response.

“I came here today in line with the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Rivers political crisis, ready to present the budget. Unfortunately, the gates are locked, and there’s no indication that any session is taking place,” Fubara lamented.

The governor assured the public that his administration remains committed to the interests of Rivers people, emphasizing that he expects a response from the Assembly soon.

The unfolding situation raises questions about the political tensions in the state and the next steps for passing the 2025 budget.
