Political tensions in Rivers State escalated on Wednesday as 27 lawmakers, aligned with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, prevented Governor Siminalayi Fubara from accessing the State House of Assembly to present the 2025 budget.

Governor Fubara had arrived early to fulfill a key provision of the Supreme Court’s Certified True Copy (CTC) ruling, which mandates the budget presentation before a properly constituted Assembly.

However, Assembly staff, speaking anonymously, claimed there was no official communication about the Governor’s visit.

“I am not aware that the Governor was scheduled to be at the Assembly today (Wednesday). If such information existed, the Rt. Hon. Speaker would have informed us. As of now, we have no knowledge of his visit,” a source stated.

This development highlights the deepening power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, raising concerns over governance and political stability in the state.
