Tiger Woods’ road back to competitive golf has hit another major setback. The legendary golfer announced Tuesday that he has undergone surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon, forcing him to step away from the game indefinitely.

Woods shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), revealing that he felt a sharp pain in his Achilles while ramping up his training. The procedure, performed by Dr. Charlton Stucken at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Florida, was described as minimally invasive, with expectations for a full recovery.

“I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab. Thank you for all the support,” Woods wrote.

At 49, Woods has battled a series of injuries, including multiple back surgeries and severe leg damage from a 2021 car crash. His last competitive appearance was at The Open Championship in July 2023, and he hasn’t played a regular PGA Tour event since withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational in early 2024 due to illness.
