The political tension in Rivers State has deepened as Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike dismissed a letter from Governor Siminalayi Fubara inviting members of the Martins Amaewhule-led State Assembly for a meeting.

Wike, who was instrumental in Fubara’s rise to power, criticized the move, calling it a weak attempt at reconciliation. According to him, a mere letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) was an “insult” and lacked political tact.

“You’ve had a strained relationship with an arm of government. If you’re a good politician, is writing a letter the way to go? Signed by the SSG? What an insult! Is that how it’s done?” Wike questioned.

He accused Fubara of insincerity, suggesting the governor was merely putting on a show rather than making a genuine effort to resolve the crisis.

“All these letters are useless. You are not sincere; you are just playing to the gallery,” Wike said.

The rift between Fubara and the State Assembly, which has remained loyal to Wike, continues to fuel political instability in Rivers State.
