In a move that could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared his readiness to collaborate with Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, to strengthen opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
Following a private meeting at the Bauchi Government House, Mohammed expressed his admiration for Obi’s political approach, calling him a leader with vision, economic expertise, and a strong grasp of governance.
“We respect him for his style of politics, his statesmanship, and his deep understanding of governance. He is now the face of opposition politics in Nigeria,” Mohammed stated.
Their discussions reportedly covered a wide range of national issues, including the role of the opposition and the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State. The governor emphasized the need for unity among opposition forces, stressing that Nigeria needs a vibrant alternative to the current leadership.
“We must work together to bring good governance, provide a strong opposition, and rescue this country from those parading themselves as leaders without vision or strategy,” Mohammed declared.
Peter Obi, on his part, highlighted the need for economic reforms, stating that tackling poverty and investing in education and agriculture are the keys to addressing insecurity.
“Nigerians may wonder why I am here, but I am consulting with critical stakeholders. Until we address poverty, we cannot solve the issue of criminality in this country,” Obi remarked.
With both leaders hinting at closer collaboration, political analysts are watching closely—could this be the beginning of a powerful opposition force ahead of 2027?
