Lagos State has taken a major leap toward self-sufficiency in medical manufacturing with the unveiling of the first-ever ultra-modern disposable syringe factory. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, commissioned the O-Care Disposable Syringe Factory, a project by Transgreen Nigeria Limited, aimed at reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported medical consumables.
Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the factory’s significance, describing it as a bold step toward strengthening the healthcare sector, boosting local production, and creating jobs. “This initiative is not just about syringes—it’s about innovation, resilience, and the future of Nigeria’s medical industry,” he stated.
The factory, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, is set to produce millions of syringes annually, ensuring availability for vaccinations and other medical procedures. Sanwo-Olu also addressed power challenges, assuring that Lagos is working on generating 1,000 megawatts of electricity to support industries like this.
First Lady Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu expressed excitement about the facility, calling it a game-changer for Lagos’s healthcare infrastructure. The factory was also praised by Dr. Abdul Muktar, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain, who highlighted its role in strengthening Nigeria’s medical security.
Managing Director of Transgreen Nigeria Limited, Cyprian Orakpo, expressed gratitude for the support from the Lagos State Government, the Federal Government, and financial institutions in bringing the project to life. He appealed to the government to improve road infrastructure in the industrial cluster and eliminate illegal tolls that hinder business operations.
In a symbolic gesture, Transgreen Nigeria Limited donated 20,000 syringes to the Lagos State Government, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing medical security and emergency preparedness.
With the launch of the O-Care Disposable Syringe Factory, Nigeria moves closer to achieving self-sufficiency in healthcare manufacturing, paving the way for economic growth and improved medical access for millions.
