In a dramatic twist during the ongoing investigation into the death of late Nigerian rapper Mohbad, an auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, has opened up in court about the events leading to his tragic demise. Ogedengbe, who administered a tetanus injection to Mohbad before his death, shared startling details in her testimony at the Coroner’s Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Friday.
According to Ogedengbe, after giving Mohbad the tetanus shot, he began showing unusual symptoms, including vomiting and developing goosebumps. She explained that Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, dismissed these reactions as a “normal response” for the rapper. However, things soon took a serious turn when Mohbad started convulsing, prompting the nurse to urgently seek medical assistance.
Ogedengbe recounted the fateful day, September 12, 2024, when she was called by Ayobami Sodiq (also known as Spending) to treat Mohbad at his Lekki residence. Upon arrival, she noticed a swollen cut on his right hand and proceeded to administer the tetanus injection to his upper arm. She also gave him paracetamol and ceftriaxone to treat a bacterial infection. Shortly after the ceftriaxone injection, Mohbad became visibly distressed, vomiting and displaying goosebumps.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Ogedengbe and Ayobami rushed to find medication for an allergic reaction, but delays at the pharmacy prevented them from acting quickly. After securing the necessary treatment, they returned home to find Mohbad outside, with preparations underway to transport him to the hospital. Due to traffic and a lack of available vehicles, he was taken to the hospital on a motorcycle. Unfortunately, Mohbad was declared dead on arrival by the medical team.
Ogedengbe also detailed the confusion at the hospital, where staff initially hesitated to treat Mohbad, further adding to the tragedy. His body was eventually returned to the house around 8 pm, and the family proceeded to obtain a death certificate from the Orchid Lekki Police Station.
The case has sparked further legal proceedings, with Ogedengbe and Sodiq facing charges for reckless and negligent acts under Section 251 (e) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. The case is set to continue on Friday, March 21, 2024, for further hearings.
As the investigation continues, many questions remain unanswered about the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s untimely death, and the public is eagerly awaiting the next steps in this high-profile case.
