The Oviri-Olomu community in Ughelli South, Delta State, has petitioned Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, calling for urgent intervention after an alleged attack by youths from Egodor Community in Burutu LGA.

In the petition signed by its President-General, Engr. Peter Arumala, Oviri-Olomu insists there is no boundary dispute with Egodor, condemning what they describe as an “unprovoked attack, intimidation, and unlawful land encroachment.”

The community accuses a local official, Emmanuel Council, of orchestrating the attack, claiming he led armed youths to chase farmers off their land on March 8. The violence reportedly escalated when the attackers disrupted a construction project by Blue Star Gas Ltd., demanding a renegotiation of land ownership.

Oviri-Olomu is now calling on the state government to deploy security forces, verify land boundaries, and hold the alleged perpetrators accountable. They stress their commitment to peace but warn that failure to act could trigger a full-blown communal crisis.

Will the government step in before tensions boil over?
