The political temperature in Osun State is rising as veteran politician Chief Abiola Ogundokun has dismissed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s $20 million fraud allegations against his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, as mere political theatrics.
Reacting to Adeleke’s petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ogundokun described the accusation as “shadow chasing” and nothing more than a distraction ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Oyetola: A Man of Integrity or a Political Target?
Adeleke’s petition claims that Oyetola, now the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, mismanaged a $20 million World Bank health grant during his tenure as Osun State governor. However, Ogundokun dismissed these claims, praising Oyetola’s track record of integrity, diligence, and governance.
He described Oyetola as “the pride of Osun and Nigeria”, urging the people of the state to resist what he called a “destructive campaign” aimed at tarnishing the former governor’s legacy.
“Osun Needs Leadership, Not Witch Hunts”
Ogundokun didn’t hold back in criticizing Adeleke, urging him to focus on governance rather than political vendettas.
Osun deserves serious leadership, not a governor turning his office into a petition-writing machine.
Adeleke should use his office to uplift the people, not waste resources on political witch hunts.
Filing a petition against a man like Oyetola is like chasing shadows.
A Call for Progress, Not Politics
The elder statesman urged Adeleke to prioritize development over political battles. Instead of trying to erase Oyetola’s achievements, he advised the governor to build on the foundations laid by his predecessor.
As Osun heads toward the next election cycle, one thing is clear: the political fireworks have just begun. Will this latest drama impact the race, or will it fizzle out as just another political skirmish?
