The Rivers State Police Command has swiftly dismissed widespread reports circulating online about a supposed riot and attack on the home of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. According to the police, these claims are entirely false and intended to incite unrest in the state.

On Sunday, social media buzzed with rumors that the residence of the former Rivers State Governor, located along Ada George in Port Harcourt, had been set ablaze by angry individuals in response to the ongoing political tensions in the state. However, Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police, firmly refuted these reports in a statement issued on Monday.

Iringe-Koko clarified that there was no evidence of violence or arson at Wike’s residence. She emphasized that these fabricated reports were part of a deliberate attempt to create fear and disorder among law-abiding citizens. The police warned that anyone involved in spreading such misinformation would face legal consequences if they did not stop their actions immediately.

In the statement, Iringe-Koko also reassured the public that life in Rivers State remained peaceful, urging citizens to ignore the baseless rumors. “There is no record of any such incident, and normalcy prevails across the state,” she said. “We call on the general public to reject these false claims and to remain calm.”

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining safety and security in the region, urging residents to rely on credible sources for news and report any suspicious activity to authorities. “We assure the people of Rivers State that we are actively monitoring the situation and will take all necessary measures to ensure peace,” the statement concluded.

With tensions rising, the police have made it clear that such attempts to disrupt the peace will not be tolerated, and those responsible for spreading these unfounded rumors will be held accountable.
