The Rivers State Government has reacted cautiously to President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency, stating that it is too soon to take a position on the development.

Speaking shortly after the announcement on Tuesday, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, said the government needed time to assess the situation before making any statements.

“The President has made his declaration, and what do you think we can say? I think it is too hasty to make any comment about it,” Johnson said when contacted.

The emergency declaration saw the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Nma Odu, and the entire Rivers State House of Assembly. In their place, Tinubu has appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the state’s administrator.
