PORT HARCOURT – The declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State was not just a tough call—it was unavoidable, according to Dr. Ken Robinson, the former Publicity Secretary of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and convener of Concerned Citizens of Rivers State.

In a statement released Wednesday, Robinson backed President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, expressing hope that it would finally end the political crisis rocking the state.

“This wasn’t just an option; it was inevitable,” he stated. “The escalating chaos, the looming threat to lives, and the potential damage to the national economy left the president with no choice.”

“We Warned Them” – Robinson Blasts Political Players

Robinson reminded Nigerians that as far back as December 2023, his group had urged political factions in Rivers to seek peace and reconciliation. However, their calls were ignored by powerful individuals who fueled the crisis instead of resolving it.

“Look where we are today. Those who should feel ashamed are the so-called leaders who had the chance to guide Rivers State toward peace but instead chose to play politics,” he said.

Hope for Stability Amid Political Turmoil

While acknowledging that the declaration of emergency was a drastic step, Robinson expressed optimism that it would restore stability and protect lives and property. He called on all stakeholders to set aside their differences and focus on the welfare of the people rather than political maneuvering.

“It’s time to move forward. Rivers State deserves peace, not endless power struggles,” he concluded.
