With just days to go before their high-stakes 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda, Nigeria’s Super Eagles have declared that anything short of victory is unacceptable.
The much-anticipated clash is set for Friday at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali, kicking off at 6:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. Nigeria time). Despite never having won on Rwandan soil, team captain William Troost-Ekong insists history won’t stand in their way.
“We’ve seen the stats, but we’re not interested in history books. Our mission is simple—win, take three points, and keep our World Cup dream alive,” Ekong told reporters on Wednesday.
Nigeria has struggled against Rwanda in away matches, managing only draws in their last three encounters dating back 20 years. However, the Super Eagles, armed with top stars like Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Samuel Chukwueze, are determined to change that narrative.
With new head coach Éric Sékou Chelle making his competitive debut and FIFA appointing Moroccan referee Jalal Jayed for the fixture, all eyes will be on Kigali as Nigeria fights to turn their World Cup campaign around.
Will the Super Eagles finally break the Rwandan curse? The countdown begins!
