The Osun State Government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have fiercely condemned a call for a state of emergency in the state, describing it as a desperate and baseless ploy by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to seize power through the backdoor.

Reacting to comments attributed to APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, dismissed the suggestion as “senseless” and an attempt to disrupt the peace in Osun.

“It is clear that Basiru and his party are scheming to destabilize the state in hopes of taking over power undemocratically. However, the people of Osun will not allow their evil machinations to succeed,” Alimi stated.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to disregard Basiru’s “wicked and baseless” call, labeling the senator as a “frustrated politician” trying to create chaos where none exists.

Similarly, the Osun PDP, through its Director of Media and Publicity, Oladele Bamiji, blasted Basiru’s statement as “reckless and dangerous.”

“It is alarming that someone would call for a state of emergency in a peaceful state. It seems like APC wants to undermine democracy by using force to reclaim states they have lost,” Bamiji remarked.

He accused the APC of fueling political unrest, particularly over local government council disputes, adding that Governor Ademola Adeleke had wisely intervened to prevent the crisis from escalating.
