Niger Delta activist Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe has accused President Bola Tinubu of using his authority to crush political opposition, particularly in the ongoing Rivers State crisis.
Speaking on Arise TV on Thursday, March 20, 2025, Sara-Igbe strongly condemned the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, insisting that the president lacks the constitutional power to take such action. He also criticized Tinubu for allegedly protecting his ally, Minister Nyesom Wike, whom he accused of fueling political instability in the Niger Delta and beyond.
“This is nothing but a desperate attempt to weaken opposition forces,” Sara-Igbe claimed. “If Tinubu wanted to declare a state of emergency, why didn’t he do so in the North where terrorists are slaughtering innocent Nigerians?”
He argued that the Rivers State crisis does not justify such drastic measures. “There’s no war, no violence—just political differences. Yet, an elected governor and the House of Assembly were suspended. This is illegal and unacceptable.”
The activist further revealed that during a recent meeting between Niger Delta leaders and Tinubu, the president placed all blame on Fubara while shielding Wike.
“Tinubu is using Wike as his enforcer, but Nigerians can see what’s happening,” he added.
Sara-Igbe called on Nigerians to resist what he described as political oppression, warning that if unchecked, similar tactics could be used against other states in the future.
