Police Smash Illegal Maternity Home in Akwa Ibom, Rescues Pregnant Women and Infants from Child Trafficking Ring

In a major breakthrough, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has raided an illegal maternity home allegedly linked to child trafficking, illegal medical practices, and impersonation. The operation, which took place in the Usung Atiat area of Abak Local Government, led to the rescue of several vulnerable women and infants.

According to Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, the raid followed a tip-off from credible intelligence sources. Upon entering the premises, officers arrested a woman who was found harboring seven pregnant women and five infants, aged between two weeks and one year. The infants, some of whom were reportedly in dire conditions, were immediately placed under protective care.

The authorities discovered a shocking range of medical supplies at the illegal facility, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunization records all of which were being used without legal authorization. This discovery raises serious concerns about the safety and well-being of both the mothers and babies involved.

In a statement released on Friday, John stressed the command’s commitment to eliminating criminal activities that endanger vulnerable individuals. She also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local police stations, as the investigation into the maternity home continues.
