Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of making suggestive remarks about her, including comments about her waist movements and hand squeezes.
In an interview with the BBC, Akpoti claimed that Akpabio once remarked on her missing wedding ring, saying, “Oh Natasha, you are not wearing your ring… is this an invitation to treat?”
She also alleged that he made a suggestive comment about her husband being “lucky” because of how well she moves her waist.
“We women, we know what it means when a man squeezes our hands in a suggestive way,” she said, adding that other senators laughed when such remarks were made.
Akpoti, who was suspended from the Senate on March 6 over what was described as “gross misconduct and unruly behavior”, had filed a sexual harassment petition against Akpabio just a day before. However, the Senate maintains that her suspension was unrelated to the petition.
Speaking on her experience, Akpoti said, “I just want a place where I can work. I thought the worst was over, but I guess for a woman, it’s never really over, right?”
