Governor Ademola Adeleke has issued a stern warning to traditional rulers in Osun State, threatening their suspension if communal violence reignites in Ifon, Ilobu, or Erin-Osun.
The long-standing land dispute among these communities has led to tragic consequences, including the deaths of at least three people—one of them a former councillor—alongside numerous injuries and the displacement of thousands of women and children.
Determined to put an end to the bloodshed, Governor Adeleke convened a high-level security meeting with service commanders, followed by a separate closed-door session with monarchs and chiefs from the affected areas.
According to his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor made it clear: “Any traditional ruler who allows further violence will face suspension. Those who sign peace agreements will be held accountable if clashes break out again.”
As part of the crackdown, security agencies have launched an aggressive response plan, including:
- Immediate deployment of a joint task force with full logistical support
- Summoning and interrogating key figures behind the unrest
- Arresting and prosecuting those responsible for inciting violence
- Cracking down on social media misinformation under the Cybercrime Act
Governor Adeleke also accused opposition groups of attempting to destabilize the state through orchestrated crises, including motor park conflicts and staged protests disguised as workers’ grievances.
Reaffirming his commitment to peace, the governor commended security agencies for their dedication and pledged full government support in enforcing order.
The security meeting was attended by top officials from the Nigerian Army, Police, DSS, Civil Defence, Immigration, and Amotekun, signaling a unified front against further violence.
