The push for the creation of Ogoja State has gained new energy as four Local Government Areas (LGAs) from Cross River Central— Ikom, Obubra, Etung, and Boki— have officially joined the movement.

At a town hall meeting held at the Ikom Township Stadium on Saturday, leaders and stakeholders from the region pledged their commitment to the longstanding agitation, aligning with their counterparts from the North Senatorial District.

Retired Commissioner of Police Lawrence Alobi, who serves as the Coordinator for the Creation of Ogoja State (Ikom Zone), emphasized the importance of the meeting in strategizing for the realization of the new state.

Alobi commended the unity and commitment of the people, stating, “Etung, Boki, Ikom, and Obubra are the backbone of this movement. Your role in fostering peace and economic transformation cannot be overstated. We need collective support, especially from our political leaders, to make Ogoja State a reality.”

He further stressed the need for more engagements and widespread participation to accelerate the creation of the state.

Chairman of the event, retired Colonel Pam Orgar, called on all sons and daughters of Ogoja, both at home and in the diaspora, to rally behind the movement. “Ogoja, as one of Nigeria’s oldest provinces, deserves urgent recognition. This is not just a political cause but a collective vision for development,” he stated.

Orgar also urged lawmakers from the zone to intensify efforts to bring the dream of Ogoja State to fruition.

The town hall meeting attracted key dignitaries from both the public and private sectors, signaling a renewed momentum in the push for Ogoja State.
