Victor Osimhen has etched his name deeper into Nigerian football history, surpassing the legendary Segun Odegbami on the Super Eagles’ all-time goal-scoring chart. The prolific striker netted his 24th international goal in Nigeria’s crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Friday.
Osimhen, known for his sharp finishing, latched onto a perfectly delivered free kick from Ademola Lookman, calmly slotting home to break the deadlock. With this goal, he now stands second on Nigeria’s scoring list, edging closer to the late Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 goals.
At just 26 years old, Osimhen reached this milestone in only his 39th cap for the Super Eagles. His rise has been nothing short of phenomenal, having equaled Odegbami’s tally last November in a 2025 AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic.
The Galatasaray striker has been in electrifying form this season, netting 20 goals and providing four assists in 20 Super Lig appearances. Across all competitions, he has racked up 26 goals and five assists in just 30 matches, making him one of Africa’s most lethal forwards.
As Nigeria continues its World Cup qualification campaign, all eyes will be on Osimhen to see if he can rewrite history and surpass Yekini’s legendary record.
